REST & RENEW: A Guided Yoga Nidra Practice
Saturday, December 13th, 4-5:15pm
w/ Niav Connor
As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, nature is calling us to slow down and go inward. Often the holidays invoke the exact opposite. Although meant to be joyful and festive, they can also be hectic and stressful.
This workshop is your invitation to slow down, rest and realign with nature. We’ll use gentle yoga poses and the ancient Tantric practice of Yoga Nidra to enter a state of deep relaxation leaving the body renewed and the mind refreshed. Although translated as yogic sleep, Yoga Nidra is a profound and transformational practice of awakening.
Yoga Nidra systematically relaxes the body and mind into an altered state of consciousness allowing the practitioner to influence parts of the mind not accessible during waking states.
During Yoga Nidra the body sleeps, yet consciousness remains fully awake and one rests in a state of pure being.
This practice has many benefits including calming the mind, relaxing the body, reducing stress and healing negative patterns or samskaras.
In this workshop, we will explore the meaning and benefits of Yoga Nidra as well as participate in a guided practice to access the subconscious mind and strengthen our sankalpa, our deepest intention.

All levels are welcome.
CORE AWAKENING, STRENGTHEN FROM WITHIN
Sunday, January 11th, 2026, 1-3pm
w/ Senior Iyengar Teacher Jess Becker
Begin 2026 with a workshop to build and nourish your core strength. Our core is a network of muscles that connects to our legs and arms, and supports our midline - our spine.
Every movement we make either comes from the core or passes through our core. The deep muscles of the legs and arms begin in the abdominal core.
This network of strong flexible core muscles plays an integral role in determining our stamina, control, balance, range of motion, the health of our organic body, and our energy in everyday life.

4-6pm
In the north-east the first couple of months of the new year plunge us into the still depths of Winter. There is a collective stirring of excitement for the new growth of Spring, yet nature demands our patience. Let us take extra time to care deeply for ourselves before the business of Spring sets in.
During these two hours, we will spend time learning simple, and repeatable, Restorative Yoga postures, and breathing techniques. When we set up a posture functionally, using the major joints of the body as a frame, we give maximum space for the lungs and all internal organs. Cultivating a spacious interior brings about conditions for the breath to be effortless and the entire body to feel refreshed. Students often leave a Katonah Restorative class saying they feel like they’ve received bodywork and are floating… Let’s float through the rest of the Winter with good techniques to help bring about inner joy.

Iyengar Yoga Workshop: Meeting at the Hip Joint
Sunday, August 10th, 2025, 11am-1pm
w/Senior Iyengar Teacher Jess Becker
Our hips hold us up. The attachment of our legs to our pelvis requires an amazing interaction of stability and mobility so we can move quickly, slowly, in any direction at a moment's notice.
Tight or weak hips don't let us do that - we experience a loss of balance, a tweak in the knees, ankle problems, sciatica, or lower back issues, bursitis, tight hamstrings, and tight quads. Over time we may grow bunions, or have shallow breath patterns, tension in the neck, shoulder and jaw, emotional imbalance as well as issues with the vital organs in the abdominal cavity.
As essential as cleaning our teeth, we have to practice structural hygiene in our hips. The 18+ muscles involved in keeping your legs attached to your body need a balance of strength and flexibility. When we’re strong and balanced in the hips, some of the issues listed above often resolve themselves. Iyengar Yoga meets you where your hips are.
Using a combination of verbal actions, props and different poses we will find space in our hips as we work towards padmasana (lotus pose)
